I'm just completing my second week. I have not weighed myself since my doctor appointment in March, so I can't report on weight loss. I have been searching the Internet for results on this diet, but I rarely see people staying on it for more than a few months. I'm wondering if the weight loss tapers down to be so small that people abandon this plan. Does anyone know someone who has lost significant weight with this diet alone?

I am only on this diet for 2 months. I've lost 11 lbs so far and my husband has lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks. I do know from my research with other forums that many many people have lost a lot of weight and many have stayed on it since it was introduced. I believe it is sustainable and doable for as long as you want it to be. I intend to stick with it because it is the easiest diet I've ever been on. If I can't stick with this then it's time to give up and go for surgery...........which I have no intention of doing. On the other forums I rarely heard any complaints about. I think the people you are seeing that are not staying on it are the impatient ones who do not see huge results. This diet is meant to lose weight slow. Average of one lb per week. Although I lost more than that. So I just think it's a matter of patience.

BTW...welcome to the boards Nancy. It's a new board so there are not a ton of people here yet. I hope to see it grow as time goes on so please come back and let us know your results.

I started 5:2 on April 8th. Today is the 24th. I've lost 6lbs in a little more than 2 weeks. I have 60lbs total to lose. The extra plus working for us following this eating plan is the fact that scientific trials have shown that not only will it help us shed pounds, but it will also reduce our risk of a range of diseases from diabetes to cardiovascular disease and even cancer. Not to mention the relief to the hips, spine, ankles, etc. that are supporting the additional weight. So now matter how slowly or quickly the weight drops, I am always boosted by the healthy improvements to my body (and my mind!) while I'm dropping my weight.

It may slow down a bit later on but who cares as long as you continue to lose and I don't see why you wouldn't. I have diabetes type 2. Doctor says if I lose weight I can come off my medications. I've had my sugar under good control for years now but still need the meds. I can't wait to get off of them. I also have osteoarthritis in my hips and spine that I hope will be somewhat relived with weight loss. I am going to continue doing this at least one day a week when I reach my goal....for the health benefits and to maintain the weight.

Just want to say hi and tell you I'm happy to have found a US board. I am down 9 pounds in 5 weeks doing this diet and I feel so much better. The only time I have issues is at night after dinner and that is a "habit" thing more than a "hunger" one. I think we aren't seeing super long range results also because it is rather new to many people.

The UK board is a great board but they have different measurements and food products that we can't buy here. So when I'd read some of the interesting ideas I got frustrated. Anyway, it's a big world and there's room enough for another board and that would be us here. It's slow getting members but as time goes by and more US people do this diet I think things will pick up here. So stay tuned and keep coming back.
BTW...you are doing great on your weight loss. Mine is a bit stalled right now. I am trying to kick start it by eating less on my non fast days. Like you, only have issues at night when I am usually my hungriest and when I used to do all my snacking. LOL

Hi Jeni - Welcome. I'm a bit stalled too but I know it's because I haven't been following the rules. "Things" came up on a couple of my fast days and I decided to switch it to the next day, but there were leftovers from the party the day before.......oh well, I think you get my drift! haha Really, though, I lost myself and stayed away from these boards. Now I'm realizing that that's the time I need them the most. I'm jumping right back up on that horse and continuing on from here.

That's the only way to look at it, otherwise you will stop and all the good will go down the drain. I've lost 12 lbs so far and yes I had a few days where I switched my fast day or I only did one fast day. But I just made sure I got back on track the next week. There are no real rules other than the ones you make for yourself. Your goal is still going to be there so never see it as a failure, just a little bump in the road.

I love what you said here: "There are no real rules other than the ones you make for yourself". Thanks for the encouragement. I'm making a big pot of the roasted vegetable soup today (from the 5:2 website) so I'll have it all week. Great recipe!

Just made a huge pot myself. Just remember that you can add or subtract any of the veggies for other's you may prefer. When ever I make it I always used different ones. Like turnips, broccoli, baby kale or winter squash. Same with the herbs and spices. I also freeze our "jersey tomatoes" in the summer and use them in my soup instead of canned tomatoes. Hope you enjoy it!

I have completed my fist full week on the 5:2 diet plan. So far I have lost 1 pound. Once I drop a couple more I will know for sure that this plan is working for me. I must tell you that I have already noiticed that on Feast days I am eating less then normal. I am getting full sooner. I'm thrilled with that. Today is a feast day and I had what I wanted for lunch, I feel full, sluggish and I didn't even enjoy the food all that much. I may fast tomorrow just to get back to feeing good again. I have such high hopes for this plan working for me.
I'm so happy to find a USA forum. I like the UK forum but it's nice to find one closer to home.~Rana
